DisneyLAND, here we come???

Now with Christmas out of the way (Happy 2010 to everyone, by the way) it's time to start thinking about trips for 2010! We are in the VERY early stages of discussing a possible April, post-Easter vacation to Disneyland in California, with potential additional stops at Universal Studios, Sea World, and the world famous San Diego Zoo (pandas!). We'll keep our eager readers (?) posted with updates!

Boooooooo sickness

Hi,

We're back home. This whole blogging daily idea didn't pan out as well as I'd hoped... remember how I said I felt as though I was catching Jared's cold? Well, multiply it by about a thousand and you'll have an idea of what I've had to deal with. This is probably the worst cold I've ever had, been without voice for 4 days, flying on the plane last night was a real treat. Anyway, being sick caused me to want to do nothing after getting back to our room but go to bed, so apologies for not blogging past Saturday. I will post plenty more photos and outline the rest of our trip tomorrow. At least if you have to be sick, you maight as well be sick at Disney World, right?

Days 2 and 3

Hi there,
Sorry for the delay in posting. Between only having Internet for 24 hours at a time, late nights at the parks, and major technicaal difficulties, this daily blog idea isn't exactly what I had hoped, but better late than never. I had this post all ready and then lost it when uploading a video, so no more of those.
Anyway, we spent Thursday at Epcot. We rode Test Track, Mission Space, and Soarin', the last two of which Jared had never been on but really enjoyed. Good thing for Fastpass- the lines for Soarin' were over an hour all day long. We had lunch at the Coral Reef, where they had an amazing chocolate dessert, and then took a behind the "Seeds" tour at the Land (photos) where we got to see all the different and "unique' ways Epcot is growing food (our tour guide said unique about 500 times). We spent some time with Nemo and his friends at the Living Seas, and after that we traveled back in time aboard Spaceship Earth and the Universe of Energy. We had dinner with Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale at the Garden Grill, and then hopped over to the Studios to catch a nighttime showing of Fantasmic. This was the video yesterday that lost me my post, so you'll have to do with still pictures instead :o).
We spent yesterday at the Disney studios, formerly known as MGM. We started our day with breakfaast at the Polynesian resort at 'Ohana with Lilo and Stitch. Unfortunately Jared is fighting a cold, so he didn't try out for the American Idol show they have here. When we got to the Studios, we immediately goot fastpasses for Toy Story Mania, and it's a good thing since at 10am they were already giving out for 5pm! (note, they've moved the lockers at the Studios as well). The studios had star Wars charcters all over for Star Wars weekend. We visited the Muppets at Muppet Vision 3D, and then took a flight to the moon of Endor on Star Tours. We had lunch at one off my favorites, Sci Fi Theater, where yyou sit in a 1950s drive in at cars and watch all sorts of B-movie trailers. After lunch we went on the Great Movie Ride and saw the Indiana Jones Show. We alos saw the always good Beauty and the Beast show, and then finally got to ride Toy Story- my new favorite ride! You wera 3D glasses and shoot at various targets all over the screen and earn points. Hard to explain, but tons of fun and a must do whenever you come here. We picked up our rental car after that and drove back, and then did the Backlot tour before dinner. I think the backlot tour used to be much better than it is now. We hadd dinner at the 50s Prime Time Cafe, but unfortunately had a very boring waiter who wasn't into playing his part. Anyone who has eaten here knows that your waiteer can make or break your experience. By this time we were tired and were planning on getting up very early, so we came back to the hotel to try and get some sleep before getting up to drive to the space shuttle launch...
... only to find out that it was scrubbed at 3 this morning. we woke up at 4:30 to drive over and a toll taker told us it had been canceled due to a leak in a tank. If only we had known sooner, so we turned around, dropped off the car and camee back to the hotel to sleep in a bit. But now I think I'll wake up Jared so we can figure out the rest of our day. I'll post tomorrow about the rest of today and tomorrow.

Oh, Nikki and Alan, you'll be happy to know I got a new hat.

We're here!

Hi! We made it! We arrived safely yesterday in Orlando. Our flight was roughly 30 minutes early. We checked in at our shuttle bus and were on our way (see photo). Last night we had some loud people outside our room around 3am, but other than that no news or highlights.

This morning we woke up and checked out of our first room and re-checked in to our second, thankfully one with a king size bed. Double beds seem tiny now. We dropped our bags off at the bell desk and went off to the Magic Kingdom. A note to my Disney regulars- they've switched around the locker and stoller rental locations. We grabbed breakfast at the Main Street Bakery, and then we got Fast Passes for Splash Mountain and then stood in line for Big Thunder Mountain. We waited about 40 minutes for that one, about my line limit. We then saw the Country Bear Jamboree, and after that nosed around a few shops before we walked back over to Splash. Jared seems to be a fan of Big Al from the Country Bears. We got on Splash with about a 30 second wait (Fast Pass is wonderful!) and bought a picture of our drop.

We had lunch at The Plaza, one of my favorites. As we sat, we sang three rounds of "Happy Birthday" to various guests. I'll have to remember to wear my birthday button on Tuesday and see what happens to me! A couple of the Main Street "resident" characters came in and led one of the rounds (see photos). After lunch we hopped on the Jungle Cruise and Swiss Family Treehouse (see photos of our view from the treehouse). We browsed some Adventureland shops and visited The Enchanted Tiki Room before we caught the afternoon parade (video, hopefully it loaded). Not bad, but not as good as others they've had in the past. As far as the Tiki Room, I still think the original version is heads above this version, but anyway. Then we boarded Pirates of the Caribbean after the parade (see Jared as Captain Jack), and then made our way across Adventureland and Frontierland to Liberty Square and visited the 999 Happy Haunts of The Haunted Mansion. We then began making our way around Fantasyland and hit Small World, Mickey's Philharmagic, Snow White, and a few more shops. Jared pointed out that North America really isn't represented in Small World, and I thought about it- Mexico and Hawaii get the only billing. The rest of the USA and Canada don't rate I guess.

By this time, we figured we should probably start heading towards the bus for dinner, so we made our way back down Main Street and began browsing those shops to scope out the merchandise. I've got my eye on a few things. We waited awhile for the bus to Wilderness Lodge, but made it in time for our reservation at Artist Point. REALLY good food here. Jared had buffalo and I had some really good salmon. I'd definitely go back. When we finished dinner we went back to the park, grabbed our bag from the locker, flew with Peter Pan since we had a Fastpass, and then turned around and got back to our hotel and our new room. We're in the Football themed building at All Star Sports.

Overall, a very fun day. Hot, yes, humid, yes, but we're drinking lots of water and wearing the sunscreen. I can't get over the people wearing long sleeves and heavy clothes, yuck. BUT IT DIDN'T RAIN AT ALL, YAY! People were very annoying with the flash picures today in the rides where it was clearly prohibited. I really hate that, and people just don't think the rule applies to them. Hopefully this doesn't continue, but it probably will, as it always does.

Anyway, tired now, so hopefully we can post again tomorrow :o)

T-minus 12 days!!

Our updated itinerary. I'm still hoping for one more dining reservation change, trying to move breakfast at 'Ohana at the Polynesian to another morning, but otherwise we're looking set. Also trying to figure out the best time to hit the water park, but that will of course depend on the weather. We're praying for sunny skies, not the solid week of rain my mom and I had last time we went in June. Thoughts?

We're going to try for the Space Shuttle Launch scheduled for 7:17am. Pray that is goes off as scheduled!
If all goes according to plan, we'll head to Disneyquest and have lunch there after we drop our rental car and spend some time there, and then also do miniature golf this day too if time allows.

Dining

Well, had some success with dining reservations today. My mom, being a travel agent, gets the inside scoop and received an email stating that authorized travel agents are now able to book dining reservations for clients. So we gave it a try and actually made two successful reservations, one of which I had been trying to get for several weeks. I'm just down to two others before all will finally be set. so if anyone reading is planning a Disney trip sometime, my mom could possibly help you with booking dining. It was pretty easy, and it was nice to not have to sit on hold waiting for a Disney agent on the phone.

16-ish days left

Getting down to the wire. I'll plan on attempting to post some sort of practice pictures this week so I know what to do when we're on the trip.

Still trying to get through on several dining reservation changes. Tried yesterday and the system was down, trying again later today, hopefully with good results. wish I had known about these things before I made the initial reservations!

We've decided to try for the shuttle launch, but not purchasing tickets for the Space Center Complex. I've been there before and it was thoroughly awesome, but the rest of our week doesn't allow for the flexibility to build in an entire day there. I'm confident we'll take another vacation to Florida sometime where we can do some of the other things around like the Space Center and Sea World. This time, we'll just cross our fingers and hope the launch isn't rescheduled, and find a place at Titusville or Cocoa Beach to watch the launch as close as we can get.

Shuttle launch

We've decided we're definitely going to try and see the space shuttle launch while we're in Florida. Our only debate now is whether or not to purchase tickets. Grandstand viewing is sold out, but we could still purchase Kennedy Space Center tickets and see the launch from there. The big hiccup is that tickets are non-refundable if you end up missing the launch due to reschedules (which are very common). Should we risk it and buy the tickets and hope the launch isn't delayed, or should we go a bit further away to Titusville, FL and view it from there for free but be further away?

T minus 25 days and new poll ----->

Hi there,

To those of you reading, yes, I'm very late with this post. Blame finals, graduation, and job searching. But now, on to the important stuff: trip updates.

I learned this week that NASA has a shuttle launch scheduled for Saturday, June 13. We're seriously contemplating going over to the space center to see it. Really a once in a lifetime chance. The only hiccup would be if they had to delay it, which is common, so if we decide to head over, prayers for the launch to be on time as scheduled. I'm super excited to do this since I'm a total NASA nerd. My mom and I saw a nighttime launch from Disney property once, and we've kicked ourselves ever since for not having gone over to the space center to see it up close.

I've been on the phone with Disney dining almost daily trying to rearrange a couple of our meals. I'd like to be at the Studios for part of the Star Wars weekend they have going on June 12-14. We aren't currently scheduled to be at the Studios any of those days, but from what I read, the Star Wars stuff they have is really fun, and Jared is a big Star Wars fan, so it should be fun, if I can get a couple of our last dining reservations switched. I got 3 switched, I'm down to 2 more.

Hmm... I think that's the latest update. We got all of our vouchers in the mail yesterday, so it's only a matter of time now. Getting really excited! hopefully this upcoming week I can play around with trying to post pictures up here so I know what to do once we are on the trip!

T minus 41 days, and new poll ----->

Yes, tardy with this week's poll for those of you reading, it's been a busy last week or so. Been meaning to post more planning updates as well, perhaps tomorrow when I have a bit more free time than 30 seconds, haha.

Also, send me some new poll ideas. I'm having trouble coming up with "short" polls, aka polls without a million answer choices. Example, I can't put "what's your favorite ride" without entering in tons of answer choices, unless I alter it somehow. Thanks!

T-minus 57 days until the Mouse...

Hi! (It's Laura) Welcome to our vacation blog! This is something I've always wanted to do, blog daily updates of a vacation as it's actually happening. I have no idea if anyone will ever read this, but I hope you do and are amused (if you are reading, please post a comment so we know you're out there).

It's T-minus 57 days and counting until our first vacation together to Walt Disney World in Florida, June 9-17. I'm really excited, as I always am with a Disney trip looming on the horizon. We've been busy planning, and since my mom is nice enough to let us borrow her laptop for the trip, and with the wonderful use of digital cameras and Internet, my hope is to blog nightly about our day and post our pictures for everyone to see. If this works out, we may make a tradition of it whenever we take a trip.

We'll be staying at Disney's All Star Sports Resort. Many people are not fans of the All Stars; "too crowded, too loud, too busy, too far away", but I've never found this to be true. I have stayed at all three of them, and I've lost count as to how many times... I'm thinking 3 or 4 times at Sports, once or twice at Movies, and once at Music. Anyway, this is one of my favorites- not a Magic Kingdom Deluxe resort on the Monorail track, but that's ok with me. How often are you in your room? Seriously, almost never, except to sleep, so I'm totally fine with saving on the room and splurging elsewhere.

We'll also be there for my birthday, and I'm interested to see how this will play into Disney's "What Will You Celebrate" theme this year. It's officially being called our one-year anniversary trip, but since we can't go in May, we're going as close as we can to it. We're praying for the Florida drought to continue until June 18th when we are gone :o)

Now, for snapshots of our bloggers/vacation-goers:

Favorite Disney memory: Hmm, so many... My very first trip with my dad (our last family vacation before he passed), the couple trips with my cousins were a blast, losing my hat at MGM (That's for you, Nikki and Alan), mom video taping while riding Thunder Mountain
